Double Glazing for Aluminium Windows and Doors in Wellington.
When considering double glazing for your existing single-glazed aluminium windows, you need to know if there is a sill flashing underneath the existing window.
Prior to 2005, the NZ Building Code did not require a sill flashing and aluminium frame manufacturers did not consider using a corner soaker, instead the mitred frames only relied on small joint sealer. At best, this would only last 2-5 years in Wellington’s high winds.
Aluminium Retrofit Option
If your frames are newer or in good condition plus have a sill flashing under them. We’ll leave your existing aluminium window frames in place and replace your single-glazed panels with double glazed units. We’ll fit new aluminium beading to the fixed panels and add a new replacement extrusion for the opening sashes to allow for the extra thickness of the double-glazed glass panel. While at the same time look at and replace backing rubbers and hardware where necessary.
